Arkansas State University-Mountain Home will celebrate the grand opening of the Vada Sheid Community Development Center (VSCDC) on September 9. The VSCDC is a 65,000 square-foot building that will serve the north central region of Arkansas and be a catalyst for economic development.

Entertainment for the ceremony will include Zoe Cimino, the Mountain Home High School Jazz Band, the Spokesmen Quartet, the Twin Lakes Choral Society and a special piano performance by Jonathan Story. Dubbed "Fayetteville's Piano Man" by the Northwest Arkansas Times, Story has collaborated with the North Arkansas Symphony, the University of Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, and The Arkansas Philharmonic.

Also slated for the building is a 4,500 square-foot Trout Nature Center which is scheduled to open the end of next year.
While construction on the building is coming to a close, there are still items to be completed, once funding is available: additional seating, which will bring the total number of seats in the auditorium to 1,600; the catering kitchen; partition walls for the McClure Convention Center; theatrical lighting and sound equipment; transport shuttle carts; and exterior lighting.
